Govan Community Project | SC042012 | SC390721 |
Led by our Digital Inclusion Co-ordinator Venus, who brings a wealth of experience from her background in training and facilitating and community-based learning. Venus is driven by her passion to build strong relationships, creating accessible and inclusive learning spaces and supporting people to grow confidence at their own pace.
We believe inclusion goes much deeper than just providing hardware. For us, it’s about empowerment, giving our community members the keys to navigate a digital society with confidence, so no one gets left behind.
For the refugees and asylum seekers in our community, the barriers to digital access go far beyond just having a device. They are forced to navigate complex new systems in a second language, all while enduring the heavy, isolating pressure of an asylum process that can often feel dehumanising.
These often-overlooked barriers are actively being broken down by our inclusion work to allow community members to fully integrate and participate. This is achieved through our device lending scheme, ensuring members can access hardware to get online, and providing free SIM cards to help them stay connected to family members, letting them know they are safe and well. Additionally, our classes and drop-in sessions help build the skills required to be active in Scotland today while also empowering a community to support each other.
Inclusion for us means agency, support, and true access.
Our digital drop-in sessions are free to attend and operate on an informal drop-in basis. Sessions may focus on a specific theme or address a variety of issues experienced by members of our community through 1-to-1 support.
