Student Fundraising

If you’re a student at university or college, getting involved in student fundraising activities is one of the best ways you can support people seeking asylum in Glasgow while meeting like-minded students and increasing your employability!

How can I get involved in student fundraising?

There are countless ways to get involved in student fundraising. A great place to start is by collaborating with a student society that you are a member of or even starting your own society and organising your own fundraising events.

Starting your own student society

We’re currently looking for a group of students who are keen to establish the first Govan Community Project-affiliated student society! This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping our engagement with student groups and supporting the essential work we do to assist people seeking asylum and refugees to rebuild their lives in Scotland. Below is a list of the organisations you can contact to start your own society, depending on which university or college you attend:

  • University of Glasgow: Student Representative Council
  • City of Glasgow College: Students’ Association (City SA)
  • University of Strathclyde: Strath Union
  • University of the West of Scotland: Your Union
  • Glasgow Caledonian University: GCU Students’ Association
  • Glasgow Clyde College: Glasgow Clyde College Student Association

Becoming affiliated with your relevant student body typically grants you access to free venue hire, bank accounts, and other useful resources that would support your fundraising activities.

How we can support

We are immensely grateful for everyone who gets involved in fundraising, which is why we will do our best to support your fundraising initiatives. We are happy to support student societies who fundraise for us by:

  • Providing guidance on how to organise a fundraising event
  • Taking part in a panel event about working in the third sector

Organising your own fundraising event

If you’re a member of student society and would like to organise an event to fundraise for Govan Community Project, we’ve put together a list of some event ideas for you to consider:

  • Bake sale
  • Pub quiz
  • Panel event
  • Games night
  • Documentary or film screening
